Client: The U.S. Treasury
Washington, DC

Project: Interpret and create a relief of the U.S. Treasury seal's shield.

Below: The U.S. Treasury
artwork I was provided for this project.

Below: Working on cleaning up the details of the shield cast in Ultracal.

I had the honor of creating a large indoor shield for the "Old U.S. Treasury building" located across from the White House. The first thing I had to do was interpret the existing two dimensional artwork to create elements that were three-dimensional. Some elements of the original artwork design were not explained very well in the artwork that was provided to me (see scales and key in orginal artwork below, left.)

I was invited to go on a tour of the historic building to see how others through the years had interpreted the design. One element that everyone seemed to agree on is the "T" that is formed in the key. Various styles of keys, stars and scales have been used. I tried to remain as faithful to the design I was given and yet make the items a little more realistic in form.
